You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

  1. Let's get beer at sporting events

Years ago I was sitting at a bar in the Thomas & Mack Arena in Las Vegas during the Mountain West Conference tournament. Wyoming had just been eliminated from the tournament and the bartender seemed overly sympathetic. I asked him why and his response was simple, "Because Wyoming fans like to drink." I believe this statement to be true, so why are the fans not allowed to drink at sporting events? I have gathered a list of reasons why the University should allow for the sale of beer (not liquor) at sporting events.

    1) The Beer Song: Why have a…

  2. Give credit for free online classes

    https://www.ted.com/talks/daphne_koller_what_we_re_learning_from_online_education

Online education is a step into the future. The sooner UW gets on board, the better. Plus, it will get us one step closer to the free education our Wyoming Constitution wants us to have!

  3. Plagiarism check software

It would be very useful to have free plagiarism checking software as part of the library services. It would prevent inadvertent plagiarism.

  4. Allow more than 3 no ID entries at Half Acre per semester.

If students know their W numbers and are able to give their information to prove they are a student, there should be no problem for students swiping in to use the gym. There could even be a keypad put out to allow students to type in their ID numbers if they forget their card. I know many students, especially those who love off campus, don't carry their studrnt IDs with them constantly. Expecting them to carry this card just to enter the gym seems ridiculous when the solution could easily be fixed with a number pad. If this isn't able…

  5. More free parking

There should be more free parking on and around campus. It is ridiculous that you can't park anywhere on campus for 15 minutes without getting a ticket.

  6. Bring Back and Revamp the UW ASL and Deaf Studies Program

As a whole the deaf community is highly unrepresented in our country and many people are completely uneducated on the subject. Recently the University cancelled their entire deaf studies and American Sign Language (ASL) programs and I believe this to be a huge mistake.

Having this program enables students to become more educated on the deaf community as well as have the opportunity to learn a whole new and exciting language. This is a great resource for the university and students to have and should be reinstated as well as overhauled to give students the best quality education that they…

  7. vending machines

Adding vending machines that sell school supplies like scantrons, blue books and pencils in the classroom building so students don’t have to walk all the way to the union to pick up the supplies they need on test day.

  10. The Wildcatter should be an alcohol-free zone

The University of Wyoming doesn't allow alcohol to the rest of fans and shouldn't do so for only certain people.

  11. Smokeless tobacco in classrooms

Should there be regulations on smokeless tobacco on campus like there are with cigarettes?

  12. Reduce the waste of paper produced by excess Branding Iron and other newspapers

I have noticed a huge amount of newspapers placed all around campus and most of them aren't read but are just thrown away (hopefully recycled anyway). I feel we need to somehow increase readership and use of these news sources or we need to go online or find other ways to be more environmentally friendly.

  13. Increase the food outlets at the Union

Presently there are long waiting lines at lunch time at the food outlets in the Union. Chinese food seems to be the overwhelming favourite and the lines are rather long. With the growing number of Asian students and the general growing popularity of Asian food amongst all, it is recommended that an additional outlet for Asian food be opened.

  14. Allow martial arts practice in Half Acre

Recently students have been kicked out of half acre for training martial arts in the Mind & Body Studio due to a policy that prohibits "hitting, punching, sparring or wrestling." These students were just practicing forms, not engaging in the improvisational aspect inherent in what is explicitly prohibited.

According to Campus Recreation, "Our mission is to provide recreation and wellness opportunities to a diverse campus community that enhance the learning and workplace environment and promote mental and physical health through quality facilities, equipment and programs." Current interpretation of policy goes against Campus Recreation's mission statement in that it suppresses diversity…

  15. Make ASUW student government more accessible to students by reducing the time requirements and opening up more positions

The time required for senators, as well as "connections" are barriers to many who may want to participate. People also need more training before elections so they know what they will actually be getting into. Another thing- elections are mostly a popularity contest.

  16. Remove the plus minus scale overhaul from the grading system.

The plus minus scale has no A+ on its scale which makes it an unbalanced scale. It unfairly punishes A- students, and its only purpose is to differentiate students and it punishes good students.

The ASUW Academics, Technology, and Sustainability Committee has been hard at work completing in depth research on this issue. Senator Josh Materi from the College of Arts & Science, the Chair of this Committee, has put together a Status Report which details this research. Please reference the Status Report from Senator Materi for the Committee’s recommendations regarding how to overhaul and/or improve the current plus/minus grading system here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BxvHE7ovI2jQWVkxbTF0cG1SRWc/view?usp=sharing.
The ASUW Student Government will continue to look at how to best address this issue moving forward. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the ASUW Student Government at asuwgov@uwyo.edu. We will periodically update this issue with any progress made.

  17. Improve parking on campus

Build permit parking lots/garages for those that commute in; we would gladly pay $100+ per semester to avoid the hassle of finding a spot on campus. Limit how long a car can park on Ivinson, 9th, and Willet. Parking is the single most frustrating thing as a student.

Students, your concerns about wifi have been heard! Improvements to the campus wifi system are underway, and ASUW would like your help. We are partnering with a campus Wifi committee to promote a survey that would figure out where exactly the improvements are most needed. The survey can be found on the ASUW Guide app, or at this link: https://www.uwyo.edu/itsecure2/wireless!

Thank you for all your help! Our app can be found in the App Store under UWYO Guide!

  19. Smoke Free Campus

There are now 1,477 smoke free campuses in the United States, with 975 of those being tobacco free (http://www.no-smoke.org/pdf/smokefreecollegesuniversities.pdf). It would be great to see this policy implement on our campus, including e-cigs.

ASUW Director of Governmental Affairs Chris Ryan has been hard at work completing initial research on this issue. He has put together a Status Report which details his endeavors so far to issue an official survey through the University of Wyoming Institutional Review Board for Protection of Human Subjects and can be referenced here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BxvHE7ovI2jQUWozUjBKZVM4WmM/view?usp=sharing. Once a survey receives final approval by the UW IRB for Protection of Human Subjects, the ASUW Student Government will monitor and gather data from the survey. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the ASUW Student Government at asuwgov@uwyo.edu. We will periodically update this issue with any progress made.

  20. Improve outdoor lighting throughout campus.

The parking lot lighting outside of the union as well as the lighting throughout prexys is unacceptable and DANGEROUS. I hate seeing people struggle to find their keys in the dark parking lot, or bikers nearly running over walkers simply due to poor lighting. This campus is not safe without proper lighting and it's a pretty simple fix.
