You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

  1. Remove the plus minus scale overhaul from the grading system.

The plus minus scale has no A+ on its scale which makes it an unbalanced scale. It unfairly punishes A- students, and its only purpose is to differentiate students and it punishes good students.

The ASUW Academics, Technology, and Sustainability Committee has been hard at work completing in depth research on this issue. Senator Josh Materi from the College of Arts & Science, the Chair of this Committee, has put together a Status Report which details this research. Please reference the Status Report from Senator Materi for the Committee’s recommendations regarding how to overhaul and/or improve the current plus/minus grading system here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BxvHE7ovI2jQWVkxbTF0cG1SRWc/view?usp=sharing.
The ASUW Student Government will continue to look at how to best address this issue moving forward. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the ASUW Student Government at asuwgov@uwyo.edu. We will periodically update this issue with any progress made.

  2. Improve parking on campus

Build permit parking lots/garages for those that commute in; we would gladly pay $100+ per semester to avoid the hassle of finding a spot on campus. Limit how long a car can park on Ivinson, 9th, and Willet. Parking is the single most frustrating thing as a student.

The ASUW Student Outreach and Policy Committee has been hard at work completing more in depth research on this issue. Senator Kadi Cooley from the College of Arts & Science, the Chair of this Committee, has put together a Status Report which details this research. Please reference the Status Report from Senator Cooley for details regarding some recommendations of the Committee to improve parking on the University of Wyoming campus here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BxvHE7ovI2jQTTJTQ09uT2ZYVEk/view?usp=sharing. The ASUW Student Government will continue to implement a few of their recommendations. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the ASUW Student Government at asuwgov@uwyo.edu. 3. Smoke Free Campus

There are now 1,477 smoke free campuses in the United States, with 975 of those being tobacco free (http://www.no-smoke.org/pdf/smokefreecollegesuniversities.pdf). It would be great to see this policy implement on our campus, including e-cigs.

ASUW Director of Governmental Affairs Chris Ryan has been hard at work completing initial research on this issue. He has put together a Status Report which details his endeavors so far to issue an official survey through the University of Wyoming Institutional Review Board for Protection of Human Subjects and can be referenced here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BxvHE7ovI2jQUWozUjBKZVM4WmM/view?usp=sharing. Once a survey receives final approval by the UW IRB for Protection of Human Subjects, the ASUW Student Government will monitor and gather data from the survey. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the ASUW Student Government at asuwgov@uwyo.edu. We will periodically update this issue with any progress made.

  4. Allow Student Health Services to write doctors notes for illness.

Many professors require a doctors note for excused absences. However, Student Health Services has a policy against it. If you only have the student medical insurance, you would have to pay out of pocket to see a health professional to get a note. This is a burden on students. Correct the system, either allow Student Health Services to write excuses, or prohibit professors from requiring them.

  5. Improve snow and ice removal

Despite the plowing in parking lots and brushing the snow off of sidewalks, the left behind snow and ice is very dangerous every winter. I lose track of how many times I have seen people fall every winter. There are places on sidewalks during the winter where there is no way to avoid the ice. Parking Lots also need to be more clear of ice as people need to be able to get to their vehicles safely. The safety tips for walking on ice and the number to call for problem spots is not enough. There needs to be more…

  6. Replace the "University Family" sculpture with a Skater Guy sculpture in Prexi's Pasture

It is well known that the "University Family" sculpture in the middle of Prexi's Pasture is unloved by the student body. We propose replacing it with a statue honoring one of the University of Wyoming's most enduring icons, Skater Guy. We believe that his tireless service to the community should be honored in a life-sized statue made of molded concrete and painted in his signature colors. As a decades old mainstay of the Laramie campus, even mentioned in campus tours, it is time for Skater Guy to receive official recognition so his memory can live on for future generations. By…

  8. Install dog waste stations around Prexie's Pasture

Love seeing dogs play on the pasture but tired of seeing dog poo. Install a couple of dog waste stations with bags and depository for collecting dog poo.

  9. Build an underground parking ramp that is free for all.

Build the parking ramp and remove the resident only parking. If a resident wants reserved parking they can leave a vehicle in the space. The current system is crazy and denies free access to the university. The proposed changes will only make things worse. Just look at the Enzi building where the street was closed for years only to restrict traffic flow when it was opened. College students should know how to look both ways when crossing the street I would hope. The underground tunnels leading from the new parking ramp to the main campus could eliminate all pedestrian traffic…

  10. Restrict Book Rental Pricing

The University of Wyoming Bookstore has several textbooks in which rental prices are higher than purchase prices. This forces students to spend extra money on textbooks rather than be provided cheaper alternatives.

  11. Allow Fans to Re-enter Games

The university recently decided that in order to allow alcohol at games, they would not allow re-entry to the events. This affect a large set of non-traditional students who bring their children to the events. Games often get too cold or too loud for children. Unforeseen circumstances come up with children requiring they leave briefly to attend to the matter. It may be they run out of diapers. Parents may be forced, due to unforeseen circumstances, to take the children home part way through to their spouse, significant other, or babysitter. Not only does the new rule cause problems with…

  12. Remove unused bikes from bike racks

Many of bike racks on campus have bikes in various states of disuse. Flag/ticket them, give owners 1-2 weeks to remove their bikes and then cut locks of remaining bikes. Bikes can be saved for claiming in a warehouse or other facility.

  15. Enforce Leash Laws on Campus

Many community members, both students and non-students, use the UW grounds as a place to walk, jog, or bike, including dog owners exercising their animals. Howeve,-r these animals are not always kept on a leash and are sometimes allowed to run free, which could be a safety hazard to children and the disabled. Even a normally well-mannered dog can be unpredictable and can be too rowdy with these individuals, causing them unnecessary fear, discomfort or injury that could have been avoided if the owner had just kept the animal on a leash. In order to protect the safety and rights…

  16. Better Tasting Water in the Enzi STEM Building's Fountains

The water in all the drinking fountains in the Enzi building has a metallic taste and is very unpleasant to drink. Is there something we could do to fix the water?
